HOUSING
by Annika, Hogeschool van Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Shared with two other people
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I lived in a flat with many oher international students and since we were all friends there were plenty of parties and other social gatherings!
Personal comments:
The communication with the appartment renting bureau was poor and the contact with the 'gardien' not that great since neither spoke any english or even tried to! Even though the majority of the inhabitants was foreign! But reflecting on the situation.. this made me more eager to learn the language, which was why I came to study in France. ACADEMIC
by RonnyS, Hochschule Bremen, Bremen, Germany
Financial Management, Erasmus
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Gestion-Finance has very well respected teachers
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
More interaction with the French people as they don't seem to settle with English or German or Spanish people. More help for interational students with banking, accomodation, carte de séjour. Goto Century 21 for good quality accomodation. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Basic phrases Personal comments:
I went to France, but it was supposed to study in English, but once there, I decided to do in French, because they said that was pretty easy to learn the basics, and I had French lessons, on my 8th and 9th grade, I didn't remember nothing, but I decided to take the risk, on order to learn one more language. But in the end my only French words, were the ones that I learn on the classes, I had facilities on understating French because some words are similar to my native language, Portuguese, so I didn't effort the maximum as I could. Out of the classes I spook English, with, mostly, my Australians friends. Basically I learned the basic French, and improve my English. EXPENSES
by Annika, Hogeschool van Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands
Business Studies, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Compared to Holland everything except the baguettes, the cheap champagne (90 euro cent in the hypermarket but a beer in a bar 5 euro!!) and cheaper clothing, was everything more expense. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Since July 2002 the flow of money between european countries is fee so I could extract money from a french ATM without extra costs! The banks charge you 30 euro fine when you close your bank account!! When you want to open an bank account use the CIC bank, it is the cheapest for students. When ariving in caen arrange a bank account right away; you cannot get your key (address) from the room agency without an insurance and you can only pay the insurance with a cheque which we do not have in holland, and you can not get a cheque from the bank because yo do not have a bankaccount and can not get it without proof of residence!!! TIP: Open the bank account first or else ask Sophie Collet from Sup Europe to sign a cheque for you so that you can pay her the amount in cash. OVERALL
by Bastiaan, Hogeschool Haarlem, Haarlem, Netherlands

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Basic information, I left my home-country knowing very few things In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
choose to follow the French Programme if you like to learn something! There is also an english programme, but that's not much of a challenge. Besides you won't learn the French language at all, doing the English programme FINAL COMMENTS
Be adaptive to other people and you will have the best experience. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
