The cost of living in an apartment was so much cheaper and being an exchange student doesn't require a 6000k instead you can enroll in the University for a fraction of that cost! In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Try to get more of the spanish students involved with the language program so that we can meet more of them. FINAL COMMENTS
Don't overpack, bring peanut butter and a strip of carpet, don't buy the telephone card that has a little gold square on the right upperhand corner to call to the US instead go to Sol in one of those kisko for $13 card that gives you sooo many more minutes, go to a travel agent for great travel packages, wake up early even if it hard, put yourself in awkward situtations so that you can learn more about yourself, avoid subway and mcdonalds so that you can try the palle (if you loose too much weight because you can't find anything you like, the ham and cheese is a great alternative). I had no idea that i would have been so difficoult finding a room. My university should have suggested me to leave before, in order to have enough time to look for an accomodation. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Personal recommendation:
be prepared at the general mess which is characteristic of Spain FINAL COMMENTS
Living and studying in madrid was great. I had some problems in the first months, because here there are so much foreigner students that the host university is not be able to help anyone. It is more hard than spend a period studying in a smaller city. however there are other advantages. Here social and nightlife is amazing!!! I wish I had known what an incredible program I would be attending and what a life-altering experience it would be for me. I would have alloted an entire year to spend in Madrid. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

Personal recommendation:
Marquette's program covers everything. The academic aspect is great- being in a very prestigious Spanish university with TONS of opportunities to use all of their facilities. Marquette does both day and overnight trips for the group, provides a wonderful group advisor who helps out in any situation. The homestay was wonderful. I couldn't have asked for more. While other students I know saw their trip simply as a few months of partying, mine was a chance to change my entire way of life. I HIGHLY recommend Marquette in Madrid through the Universidad Complutense. FINAL COMMENTS
Amazing. Don't miss out on this opportunity! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I wish that I wouldn't have been so intimidated with speaking another language. You need to just jump in a go for it - you will never learn unless you are willing to make mistakes. In my opinion:

Personal recommendation:
I would definately encourage anyone to go - you learn more about yourself during the experience than you ever will from a text book back home. FINAL COMMENTS
Be sure to take advantage of every chance you have to meet locals. Use common sense - but don't be afraid of being approached or approaching others. You may meet friends that will last a lifetime. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

try to experience as much as possible!!! FINAL COMMENTS
if you want this experience to be the best time of your life - just let everything happen, don't expect or plan too much right from the beginning and - most important - spend time with local students as much as possible!!! you should be especially open to cultural differences in order to be able to really dive into madrid's life (some things work a lot more slowly in spain as you might be used to for example). i only travelled around madrid (to toledo for example) and to barcelona - travelling through spain is amazing, but i preferred staying in madrid with my friends there because 5 months isn't such a long time. Personal recommendation:
Well, Complutense is the biggest university in Spain. There are some red tape problems and not everything is clear to a foreigner. As far as the Faculty of Business&Economics is concerned, they have quite wide offer of courses but all of them are in Spanish. The standard and quality of courses is actually up to teachers so before making a final declaration I suggest making an "investigation" in advance ;);). FINAL COMMENTS
Well, to get to Madrid, the best way is to take a plane and get off at Barajas Airport. In Madrid, to move through the city so called ABONO is a must!It costs about 35 euro/month and you can use all means of public transport (metro, bus). Madrid is localizated in the center of Spain so travalling by buses, trains you can visit the north of Spain (Pais Vasco, Cantabria, Galicia), the east coast ( Catalunia), the south (Andalucia) and have a trip to Portugal!! :):) Euro26 Student Card gives you some discounts. Stay away as much as possible from things that prevent you from accomplishing your goals. For example, to learn Spanish, it is best to be with Spaniards who hardly speak your mother tongue. If you want a lot of freedom, rent your own place. And if you want to get the most out of your experience, don't try to save any money; spend your whole budget every month!! I wish I knew that the constituents of the city of Madrid are not nearly as open-minded as they are proclaimed to be and that racism and prejudice towards people of color run rampant in that city, especially amongst the natives (not so much the cultured/non-native locals). In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Although it is a large university, you will leave very prepared because it will exercise your independence and willingness to accel above and exceed the rest. FINAL COMMENTS
Invest in a travel book to review prospective cities for travel, overprepare as far as money is concerned, people of color should beware of the prejudice but not let it ruin their experience, and remain open-minded. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

For future international students, the most important is learning the culture as much as possible before going into a certain country. Life abroad is like eating fish, you eat the meat and you throw the bone. That simply means, you accept the good and you reject the bad. Forget about your domestic habits and learn to adapt - love the country for what it is and you´ll start to realize everything is a journey of the heart not of the mind. Lastly, don´t fill your luggages too much. When you arrive, you´ll realize you don´t need some of those. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

That studying in Madrid is not as easy as in the south of Spain. Most people will tell you that when you are in Erasmus, you don't have to study, it's not true. You might study less than in your country because you have less courses but the difficulty is to study in a language which is not your mother language, so it requires more time! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
To choose your courses, don't base your decision only on the course description, try to ask other students which teacher to choose and ask to see how big it is first! FINAL COMMENTS
