Why? The residenze universitarie enforced strict curfews which didn't mesh well with the lifestyles of carefree "erasmus" and study abroad students, therefore some of us ran into some trouble along the way. Furthermore., my last month in Siena, I moved out to a private apartment, and it's a much better way to feel like you're actually, independently, a part of the society.
Personal comments:
The housing was good enough, the prices were very reasonable, the facilities comfortable, and the locations very desirable. In any case, student housing is a great place to start in Siena, even if it is one's intention to eventually move elsewhere during one's stay.

Why? I lived in a house with 20 persons from all nationalities. This way, I really got to know the cultural differences between European countries. And I made friends for life!
Personal comments:
The location could not have been better: 1 minute from Piazza del Campo! Only the technical aspects were sometimes disappointing. For example: we only got warm water after 3 weeks and when something was broken it took a while before it was fixed! But at that time it didn't bother me much. Typically Italy! ;-)

Why? Because I dont'like sharing with a lot of people the spaces like kitchen, WC, TV room... and I also prefer mustn't follow the host family rules.
Personal comments:
Before my arriving in Siena, I recived a mail with a lot of different flats to share with other students. In this mail there were the phones and mail adress to can find your flat from Barcelona. It helped me a lot

Why? I got to live with Italian students and because of that I was able to improve my Italian very fast
Personal comments:
Siena is small and has a lot of students, together with the italian mentality (mot a lot of organization) it wasn't easy to find the right place to stay...but never give up in Italy and you will get what you are looking for

Type of housing: A beautiful, old palazzo, which was a dorm

Why? I would love to help an Italian family learn English, and I know they could help me improve my Italian.
Personal comments:
rooms were a bit too small for 2 persons, and there wasn't any a/c or fans, so they got desparately hot at night.

Why? The location was pretty good, the only thing I would want if i had to go back was an internet connection!
Personal comments:
The housing in the city of Siena was pretty bad, Siena is a small city with a large population of students. The consequence of this is that the room prices were extremely high. It was also common to sleep in one room with two or three people (and even more). BUT, Siena is a beautiful city and the people there are great, so for a few months this is not feasible.

Why? It is much better to live with foreign students in order to improve ones language ability.
Personal comments:
There is only one tiny halls of residence which is very hard to get in to. Appartments in the town are ok overall though, but are a little hard to find for foreigners. There should have been an accomodation office of some sort in order to help students find accomodation so that they do not need to pay out for an agency.
