HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? You're able to learn to know other students but are at the same time independent (own room, without duty to adapt to a families way of life).
Personal comments:
There is an accomodation-meeting in August before the term, where you can choose other new students to live with and find a house. The adress of my accomodation I found by hints of the student, who went to Bristol the year before. I did not know the persons, with whom I lived together then, so it was luck that it worked very well. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
You hardly can get bored in Bristol during the night: go to Bristol Academy or Creation if you like hip-hop and r'n'b music (on thursday), try to get into the Massive Attack club, don't miss all the clubs on the Watershed. Enjoy tipical English pub from 7pm till 11pm: if you like jazz and want to have fun, go to the Old Duke. To dance salsa or just to breath a "latin atmosphere" go to Fiesta Havana (my favourite!)... My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
No. It depends on your interests and normally you can ask for a change of course. Some did and whether you think a teacher or course is good you can't know before.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Concerning international students it may make sense to be able to attend graduate-seminars, because it is more similar to the way of studying here. It makes a great difference whether you are trained for a job or for academic purposes and the former is the aim of an undergrate study in England. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Well, in the beginning was awful because i couldnt communicate myself, even i had problems to go from the airport to the town. I couldn't understand what the taxi-driver was saying me. The first weeks were so hard because everything was new to me (opening a bank account, asking where it was everything, going to the university, making friends...) but fortunately i improved my english so fast. The third month i was able to do everything i needed in a proper way, but of course, i wasn't able to speak and to understand perfectly (even now i can have some problems). But, in summary i'd say it all went pretty well. The experience was amazing. i made so many friends, i was able to pass 3 of 4 subject i had, i learnt so many things about the english culture. And happily i learnt english. So...is there anything better than study abroad? I don't think so! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Food and accomodation are definitely more expensive in England than in Germany; I did not travel or telephone much and had no own email-account in my house to pay; Nightlife is as well more expensive (often 5 pound entry e.g.) than here and normally you go out more than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

Personal recommendation:
A very good university specialy for technical studies. It offered very good facilities and interesting courses well structured FINAL COMMENTS
Trying to get a good accomodation is the ky factor to get started. To achieve this is important to arrive early, before the people start arriving. There are good young hostals where you can get accomodation to start looking for. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
