Personal comments:
Did not receive any information from the University of Glasgow on how and when I should apply for the university accomodation. In the beginning of August 2002 I called the Accomodation Office and the International Office at the University of Glasgow and they told me that I should have applied for university accomodation before the end of July 2002. They told me to send my application by fax and I did that. Started to call the Accomodation Office every week and finally they found a twin room for me. I had to share the room (big!) with a Spanish girl. At first I was a bit nervous about sharing a room with a person that I did not know but everything went fine and we never had any problems with each other. The student appartement was for four persons and a Chinese girl and a Brittish girl was also living there. The house was an old beautiful victorian house and it was close to the university. Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
You can join the University clubs and go out for a night with them. You'll come home stoned! Don't miss the Shack near Pitt street, and the Garage if you like the disco. Plenty of Pubs will assure you a great hangover espacially the Mollymalone: Live music on friday and saturday. Don't forget to go to a football match at Ibrox, or Celtic Park at Parkhead. Travel to the west coast to the isle of Skye or to the far north to the Orkney islands, you'll discover a great landscape. Easy from the Buchannan bus station. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Before enroling to any course try to read the past exam papers and choose a suitable course according to your level of english.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I think that every university should have an office or meeting room for erasmus student to help them with their studies and to do some councelling. Some of my friend had problems with their work because the level of the course was too high and did not know what to do: talk to the lecturer or the administrative staff?? Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
In general I am happy with my language improvement, because even though I had a good paper knowledge of the language, it was difficult to put it into practice and develop fluency. After my stay in Glasgow I felt much at ease when I had to speak in English. Mainly I practised at University, with teachers and local students, and outside University at shops. It was difficult to get to know local students and share their activities (mainly the night live ones) due to the age difference (as the local students sharing accomodation or classes with us where much younger). The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Simply because at home I used to live with my family (now I'm on my own). In the second place, UK is almost three times more expensive than Italy. Lukily that is not an absolute truth... Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
The student card in UK is a powerfull tool for saving money. The tip of the day is to look aroud for any benefit this can grant. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Nothing except that the Scottish accent is so different from the English and Irish one In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
My reccomandation for this University is to go and see waht it is like you will not regret it. If you play sports hard you can find there a huge amount of opportunities to practice your sport even in a high level. Studying is important, but usually students don't like advices on it. FINAL COMMENTS
Get a Zone card or a bus card for buses and for the underground. Use your student card as nuch as possible to get reductions and if you don't have one get a SYHA card (Scottish Youth Hostel Assosiation) to have cheap accomodations This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
