HOUSING
by Mary, University of Durham, Durham, United Kingdom
Language, DAAD
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? to become more immersed in the language. There were too many English-speaking people on my corridor.
Personal comments:
Excellent if you get a room in the StuSie area by the beautiful lake and only a short tram ride away from the university and town centre. I was in Europa House, which though you get an ensuite shower and small kitchenette to yourself, has the disadvantage of housing loads of international students so everyone speaks english. Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
For cheapest and best beers there was always the bar right on the dormitory grounds. (the stussie bar) It was always a blast and they even had dancing till the early dawn.\ The student organizations also run some great parties..and don't miss the monthly party at Waldsee- Rootdown This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Once I had studied German in Brazil, it was not a problem to communicate in every day life in and outside the university. I had some problems with the English language instruction at the beginning because my English was kind of rusty, but after the first semester I could manage all situations with ease. Personal comments:
Watch the exchange rate. Don't plan on buying too many articles of clothing or furniture. Bring as much stuff with you that you can. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
