Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Where I stayed, the StudentenSeidlung, was the largest grouping of students. It was near the university, and a great place to interact with the other students. Especially other foreign students.

As I said the StuSie was great. Close to the uni and the city center. Everyone gets a single. I couldn't have asked for a better residence!

Final comments
My time in Freiburg was awesome. Anyone who has the chance to study at Albert-Ludwigs should take it. If you're going to be in Germany for a while, get the Bahn Card- it gives you half off rail travel anywhere in Germany, and if you get the 'Railplus' feature that gives 25% of on selected european countries. The Bahn Card is worth every Mark! (There is a special student rate)

Course recommendations
It is Germany, so the courses are taught in German. Be prepared for that (however, there some English lit cousres taught in English). Also, be prepared to work, it is challenging

At first I was very intimidated. I had studied German for three years before going to study, so I knew German. But,there is nothing like living a language. As the time went on I became more and more fluent.

The phone system in Germany is whacky, so it's a little more expensive than in the U.S. there is a charge for every call, local and long distance

Personal comments
Germany for Americans is the half price country. The only way to go broke is if you spend without caution. Everything there is cheap. Except the trains, travel can get expensive.
