HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Appartements are quite inexpensive in Montreal even if prices are increasing a lot every year. If you want to meet people and spare money, choose a shared appartements, they are very popular here.
Personal comments:
I would advice you not to live in the students' rooms offered by Concordia because of three reasons : you will have to share them, they are quite expensive (in comparison with the appartements) and you'll have to leave near Loyola Campus (lost, very far from downtown and the other campus of Concordia) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Karin, Concordia University, Montreal, Canada
Accountancy, I recently moved to Greece and resided in Canada throughout
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
The best night spots can be found in the streets surrounding the downtown campus. Particularly on Crescent street. The best cafes are on St-Laurent street located on the other side of the downtown area. Travel is very convinient by metro and well worthwhile. Certainly the various museums in the downtown area and the Biodome located at the Olympic Stadium are must sees. The night life is also something to be taken advantage of. ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I chose lots of courses on local politics. I think it was a good decision, I learned a lot. Courses are taught in a very different way than in Europe. It's more like a discussion on the material red at home. Forget the magistral courses !
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Exams are quite easier than in Europe but you will have papers to write in nearly all the courses. I believe this is interisting. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
In class i have some dificulties, since most of my classmates were form Asia, and middleast were the languages are so, diferent that it was dificult to understan them, not to metion the different mentality. in general, they were very shy, and well in Mexico the class atmosphere is very different and everyone in general are social, and talkative, so there i had the rol of the one who always started and mantain the conversation, which was a litlle dificult since i never had to, but i think i handle it pretty well, and I learn to be discreat, because being amog students from all over the world, with different belifs, traditions, maners, it was a very interesting experience This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
It was a deception for me to see there where so many french people in Montreal and in Concordia. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I know all the universities in Montreal quite well. I would say that Concordia distinguishes itself by it's multicultural aspect, most of the students are immigrants or children of immigrants. This diversity is also true concerning their age. This makes this university a really diverse one very representative of the reality of Montreal. I liked Montreal a lot. It's not the nicest city in the world but life there is really enjoyable. A proof of this ? I am back there, studying in HEC. Convinced ? Don't hesitate to contact me for questions. FINAL COMMENTS
There are interesting cities to see : Quebec city (very, very nice : try to visit it for the carnaval in February), Boston, New York, Toronto and Ottawa. Quebec is also a nice province : I advice you to go to the whales in Tadoussac and to visit Gapésie. Finally I will make a myth fall : the Niagara falls are not worth it, so sad but it's better to go to Las Vegas to see planet Hollywood and Casinos....
