HOUSING
by jennysw, Lunds Universitet, Lund, Sweden
Economics, University Agreement
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? That is the only thing that exists in paris...practically. If you do find a dorm room it is very bad facilities and quite messy
Personal comments:
the university doesn't do anything to help the students with accomodation. the housing situation in paris is quite difficult - thus be prepared... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Man Ray and Tanjia were excellent! Loved Corcoran's Irish pub at St.Michel, Maurizio's italian restaurant in the 15th was amazing, Les Deux Magots at St.Germain has the best hot chocolate in the world! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
If you're able to take courses in the foreign lanuage then I would recommend that you do it. It's an interesting way to learn about their way of learning/ teaching and you can also meet students from the host university this way.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Going to a university in Paris is quite stressful if you're used to a very efficient administration team...if you can get through the first month or so dealing with all the admin dilemas then you'll be fine! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
It was easy to communicate within the university as a strong emphasis was placed on International students. Outside the university, there were a few problems but confidence grew over time This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Family Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
because everything is more expensive on the one hand, and on the other hand I cared less than at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
In france, if you want to rent an appartement on your own, you have to pay a caution referring to the rent payment for 1 year! which is deposited at the bank until you leave. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
French administration is REALLY slow and complicated. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I know it is a big effort to be as patient as necessary, but the stay certainly is worth this effort. FINAL COMMENTS
Finding a flat in Paris is really difficult, you should try to find something rather early before you leave. There's a lot to see in Paris - try to see as much as possible. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
