Why? This cost-effective solution allow independance and also direct contact with people of the same age.

The big bookshops (e.g. Blackwells) with café inside. Starbucks Coffee on Cornmarket Street. (closes around 8 pm, friendly staff, comfortable couches)

Personal comments:
French people are usually proficient in written English, but have difficulties understanding native speakers. I am able to understand fully dialogues in English, what I was not able to do before that stay in U.K. Thanks to my studies I could improve my proficiency in academic and everyday language.

Life expenses in U.K. are very high.
Food, Overall: was more expensive than at home.
Travel, Nightlife, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Transferring money from a French account costs a lot, as well as withdrawing money from it. The best way to save money is to have a local bank account.

Nothing. It was a full discovery of a culture I did not know before. I did not have bad surprises except regarding the overall high expenses.
