Why? Living in the dorms is definitely part of the experience of studying in the US. I would have hated to miss it.

Grinnell college is the best university I've ever seen, and this is coming from someone whose home university is La Sorbonne, Paris, France!!!

It was not legal for me to work
Personal spending habits:
I didn't pay for food, neither at home or in Grinnell. But I wanted to take advantage of being in the US to discover new areas of that country, hence higher travel expenses.
Travel, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Overall: was the same price as at home.
Food, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.

Don't forget the health insurance.
