HOUSING
by Guntra, Vidzeme University College, Valmiera, Latvia
Tourism, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Living on a campus is a part of a student life :) That's a good place to meet people and stay closer to friends.
Personal comments:
Norway is quite expensive so costs are high. But the housing was really good. Not too far from university. I had my own room and bathroom; shared kitchen (it was clean but all depends on people you live with on one floor) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Guntra, Vidzeme University College, Valmiera, Latvia
Tourism, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
University has a gym (for free). Being active and doing sports seemed to be a big part of Norwegian life. As an Olympic town Lillehammer has also other sport facilities. Town is not too big but has many good places to visit at night. Mostly filled with students. Actually - anything you want to do - u can do it there. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Really not a big choice in courses for international students (in English). I took what they had. People speaking Norwegian will have much bigger choice.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Everything was quite easy. I could have done more. :) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
Norwegians speak English very well. Had no problems either in university nor anyplace else. But this fact sure did not help learning Norwegian since I always knew they would understand my English better. Became too lazy to try..... :D This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had known sth more about Norwegian people's characteristics, the way they interact with foreigners. They appeared to be more reserved than I thought before, and you have to be really patient and initiative to make more than formal conversation with somebody. though all of them were nice and helpful if I asked. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
This is totally Norwegian environment and it's really hard to be accepted, if you're foreigner. There are only some international students and you are lucky to find any. But if your communication skills are good enough to break any ice, to hold to speaking Norwegian and be creative to find different activities to make your life interesting - this is a perfect place to go! Lillehammer is cosy town and you'll not regret any hour of being there! The same about the college: it's good library, courses and staff is what I can't forget! FINAL COMMENTS
If you have Norwegian student card (you get it there), your costs for trains are - 60%. So, therefore use trains! :) Try to be active at school: take part in making student week UKA, be a member of different groups (they are plenty there), find the videorooms and piles of worlds best films in library, look around and experience the most beautiful winter (white, cold and sunny) in your life! :) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
