HOUSING
by Agnieszka, Warsaw School of Economics, Warsaw, Poland
Marketing and Sales Management, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Living on campus facilitates contacts with other exchange students.
Personal comments:
The Residence Ruhl had a great location, but unfortunately its standard was disappointing. However, since there were so many exchange students, it was a great place to make friends and live in. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Most cafes are situated in a small "night-life district" called Le Carre. Before all, there is a very popular exchange students' bar "Pourquoi pas?", visited eagerly several times a week. For those who want to integrate with Belgian students too, there is "Le Soleil", always full of friendly young people. If you'd like to spend a nice evening in an original place but don't like crowds and loud music go to "Pot-au-lait" or "Tam Tam" (African cafe serving range of delicious exotic drinks). Other places worth visiting are "Murphy's", "Chez Bouldou" This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I suggest to erasmus students to be open minded and enjoy as much as possible. In belgium you are close to a lot of countries, so i recommend you to travel. :) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Concerning my language skills I benefited greatly from my stay in Belgium. Most of my courses were in English, and this was the language I used most with other Erasmus students. But in everyday life I had to speak French, also with my room mates who hardly spoke English. That's why I gained the ease and fluency in speaking French and learnt lots of useful, everyday phrases. What's more, speaking English a lot with my friends and having courses in this language I improved it at both casual and formal level, and also enriched my vocabulary by marketing and economical terms. EXPENSES
by Maja, Uniwersytet Jagiellonski, Krakow, Poland

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spent more on food and accommodation because prices there in Belgium are higher than in Poland. As regards the nightlife and travelling, it seems easier and more tempting to spare time to those activities when surrounded by friends, so in that case the higher expenses were due not necessarily to the prices (which are higher anyway) but mainly to my increased social life. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
In order to save some money on food, I advise shopping at big markets like GB or Delhaize. They offer cheap but good quality food products ("Produit Blanc", "Derby"). If you intend to travel in Belgium a lot, consider buying a go-pass - a book of ten train tickets, allowing to go to any place in Belgium for no more than 150 BEF. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
i would like to know that my landlord was a "thief"!! In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
nice university, but i wouldn't go again! FINAL COMMENTS
well, liege isn't the cutest city of belgium, but it has nice things to do. You must be aware that you rent a house close to the university! and you should see it first, before having a commitment with the landlord.. Every erasmus students wants to have fun and to enjoy erasmus life... this university is ok... but don't forget that this is a privat university! there are only a few erasmus students. although, Liege has a public university..and there.. u will find a loooooooot of erasmus people! At night everybody goes to the same places. there are a few roads, all toguether, that have many bars, drunk people, happy people, night shops, kabeb's and pita shuam rests... you'll find everything... but most of all..BEER, LOTS OF BEER... Jupiler!!I must inform that in the street of the university there is a bar where you can find more than 900 kinds of beer... you must try it! I could stay here for hours saying what you could do in liege... but i think you wont have problems in finding that out! ENJOY AS much as i did!
