It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
My perception was that I spent roughly the same there as back home, but logically that can't be right since paying Swiss prices would probably be unaffordable for Canadians...it is weird though, the specific stuff that's more expensive in Canada than back home, e.g. Milk or Tomatoes. And of course liquor and cigarettes! Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home. Food: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Bank transfers are way too expensive, so your best bet is to use your bank debit card from home and withdraw cash at one of the main banks' ATMs (Banque Nationale, etc., for example at HEC's main building). Withdraw large amounts at once, so you don't have to pay the fixed fee your bank charges you at every withdrawal too often. But be aware that you only get 20-dollar bills, so you might be walking around with a pretty thick wallet. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Spent more on nightlife because I went out more! (Alcohol is more expensive) Spent more on travel because I travelled more than I usually would, though it is definitely worth it! Housing is very very cheap, almost half my rent in the UK. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Overall: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Sometimes it is cheaper to eat out than do grocery shopping. Forget buying a mobile, you will never use it and they are expensive. NOt many students out there have them. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

housing is relatively cheap compared to the uk, as is food, but we ate out a lot more. travel was more expensive just because we did more of it-it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some amazing places Travel: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
bank machines other than the one belonging to yoyur bank charge you for making withdrawals-a bit unfriendly! so beware of that. also you have to add 15% tax on to every price you see This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Most of the added expense was because I lived a different lifestyle than I would at home, going away regularly on trips, eating out more, going out more, skiing etc. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Textbooks were expensive as it wasn't easy to get hold of them second hand, and the library does not have copies of the compulsory texts like at home. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Housing with GIA-Gestion was expensive, and as I lived with no other students, I would incur expenses solely on my own (whereas in a shared house you can split some groceries, cab rides home etc) However, Montreal is not a cheap city to live in either. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
GIA-Gestion claim to operate at no profit, however, you'll find the same landlords who rent through GIA will offer the same properties on the regular market for much, much cheaper. If you do a bit of research, along with the housing assistance that HEC offer, you'll be able to find the same, if not better accommodation at much cheaper prices. You'll also get the guarantee of living with other students, saving on household expenses and having a much better home life. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
