HOUSING

Law, Comparative/Law with Languages, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? You get to meet other students, there is always something going on.
Personal comments:
The facilities were quite basic but the communal ones were cleaned daily monday to friday. The rooms were a fair size and in a good location for the University and trams into the city centre. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by ally01, University of Hull, Hull, United Kingdom
Law, Comparative/Law with Languages, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Nightclubs: Bhaggay Disco and MK2. For a more german but lively atmosphere Ballermann 6. Loads of great restaurants, in particular Acapulco and Miles Smiles. Must see Schloss Benrath and take a trip to Koblenz. Karnival, the locals go mad and its a good chance to relive your childhood This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I went to the Heinrich Heine Universität in Düsseldorf to take the intensive German course. I couldn't help speaking English with my friends, but sometimes they were hard on me forcing me to speak German. This was vey helpful. I think the best way to learn a language, better than taking a class, is to talk, listen to the TV, Radio, reading books and interact with the language, classes are not as helpful. Becasue at home I don't live by my own but with my family. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Housing for international students provided by the university is most of the times more expensive than for locals. There are appartments called "WG" shared by students which can result cheaper and a very gratifying experience. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Maybe knowing that the host university was not that experienced in my field of study. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
There are lots of activities and things to do organized by student groups, so don't miss the opporunity to take part in them! FINAL COMMENTS
Dusseldorf is a very well located city, from which you can reach easily many places, both in the region and the rest of germany, and also the Netherlands. If you need help with your studies or any other problems don't hesiate to ask the international office of the university, they are always available for helping students out with any problems. If you wanna travel somewhere for a very cheap price, try mitfahrgelegenheit.de a system where you can join someone that goes by car to the same place as you. Also couch surfing is very popular in Germany. Experience as much as you can! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
