HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The apartment owner had an agreement withe school to take ERASMUS students. So the house I lived in had a mix of students from countries such as China, France, Italy, Spain, Poland etc. This meant I got a great introduction to these peoples cultures without actually going to the countries, greatly broadening my horizons.
Personal comments:
The university only has an agreement with a landlord to let rooms. The accomodation is not the greatest but, is cheap and ideally located for school and extra-curricular activities. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
Celtica - Irish bar live music down stairs disco upstairs. Cheap drink and lots of fun. Corbeau - Local bar 1 litre glasses "chavilier" disco music. Big bar with lots of people dancing on all the tables, really good fun. Fuse - Big nightclub Often used for university parties mixture of music. Often the European commission has parties for different nationalities e.g Spanish parties, British, Scandanavian. Often with themes. Usually cos a bit more 500-800 francs but well worth going to. Karaoke bar - near the bourse. Simply for thoise who love to sing there hearts out, nice atmosphere, some of the old pro's do their bit but don't let them put you off. Songs in English, French and Italian. O'Reillys bar & The James Joyce both Irish bars have sky and show most football matches. More games shown at O'reilly's but the James Joyce is cheaper and quieter. Wild Geese - Irish bar where all the European commission stagièrs hang out good atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday, a bit crowded and also a bit expensive. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
I came to learn French. However, most people spoke English or wanted to so I ended up not improving my French very much. There was a large presence of Italian students So now I am learning Italian and will move there soon an hopefully become fluent. EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
SOCRATES Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Mainly drinking less and the accomodation is cheaper with bills included. Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel: was the same price as at home. Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
There are lots of abonnament deals available for Buses, trains etc. There are also international calling cards which can be used on private lines and in non-belgacom phones(usually blue). They can cut the cost of calls to home up to three times. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
