Course recommendations
French courses are ridiculous. You can download notes off the internet from the year before and pass the test without ever having taken the class.

You spend most of your time with international students because French culture means that most university students already have their friends from high school. So unless you spend time with a host family or in some sort of extracurricular, you wont use your skills

go to a different university in Paris, you're going to spend your time with internationals regardless. If you do want to spend time with locals, join some sort of club

Final comments
Lyon isn't that great a city. I chose it because I thought it would be more French. It was, but it didn't offer any more of a French experience. Seriously, Paris or Quebec, despite the accent, is a better place to have fun. France is overrated. I've studied abroad their twice for a total of 18 months, and I speak French very well, but not because of my college experience. I did it in high school. If you must study French, go to a really, really small town with no other intl students or Paris. Otherwise study Spanish.
