Sciences Po Bordeaux (its official name being l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Bordeaux) was founded in 1948. It belongs to the "family" of the nine Instituts d'Etudes Politiques in France under the aegis of the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques. It is one of France's "Grandes Ecoles", well-known as centres of excellence in higher education. Sciences Po Bordeaux is an autonomous public establishment affiliated to l'Université Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV (Law and Economics and Political Science). Sciences Po Bordeaux is situated on one of Europe's largest campuses. It offers excellent facilities for both study and recreation. Not far from the centre of the city of Bordeaux and its welcoming community of more than 600,000 inhabitants, Sciences Po Bordeaux is half an hour's drive through the vineyards to the vast expanses of the dunes and beaches on the Atlantic Coast.
