HOUSING
by Rade, Univerza v Ljubljani, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Management Science, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? More interaction with other cultures.
Personal comments:
What they arranged was 50% more expensive than if you arranged by yourself. they also charged fees for find an apartment for you. For them it is just about business and money not helping. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Oh there are so many impossible to have a favorite. But you have to go to LUX, a very famous and nice nightclub next to the River. Ladies' night at club Indochina, always a good party. Just to drink something go to Bairro Alto, a part of Lisbon with hundreds of Bars, stop by at Jurgens Bar. The famous Hot Club if you are a fan of Live Jazz is not to be missed. Club Docks, Club Com Vento and and and..... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
For me Portuguese was a very hard language to learn. The pronouncation of the language is very hard. Between the young generation in portugal it's no problem to communicate in english. With the older community there sometimes it is quite hard to understand them or make them clear that you don't understand them. Especially for things like open a bank account, getting a tax number it is very helpful to have a native speaker aside or have at least basic knowledge in the language. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
A private grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Telephone and Housing are simply cheaper than in Germany. The Nightlife is almost the same price than in Germany but i did go out ten times more than in Germany. Travelling is much cheaper than in Germany, especially public transportation like trains and busses. Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Food, Overall: was the same price as at home. Travel, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
A surprise was that the Nightlife is quite expensive for Portugal. At least in the clubs the prices are almost the same price than in Germany (3euros/beer). A saving tip is not to go out that often but who wants that ???? :-) The most money you can save if you take a little bit more time to find a proper appartement because living can be really cheap in portugal and lisbon. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Problems with banks so at first try to open an account in Portugal and be prapare that for money transfer from home country takes even more than 2 weeks! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Teachers do not care especially about international students. Courses are often delayed or cancelled. FINAL COMMENTS
All this experience I can describe as best in my life! I love Portugal and especially Lisbon! I am different person now, more adult and independent. Finally I know what I want. But school wasn't as well organised as in my home country as well as courses but people there were extremly nice and helpful. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
