Personal recommendation
It's one of the top schools in Mexico but by no means the only school. It has a good sized exchange program and excellent resources like a completely wireless campus. Student life is very good!

Travel every weekend! The bus system in mexico is cheap and convenient. Plan to meet at the bus station every friday with an open mind and "where to next" attitude and you will fully experience everything Mexico has to offer.

Take a 100% spanish courseload. It's not as difficult or as daunting as it may sound.

I come from a university with a mandatory integrated lap-top learning style, so it would have been nice to make more use of technology in classes.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Living in a foreign country and forcing yourself to use their native language everyday is the only way to learn. Obviously there are difficulties to be expected but having a few drinks with locals and focusing on using whatever level of the language you have is the only way to work through your stuggles and become fluent in a foreign language.

The cost of living in Mexico is much lower than in Canada. It is an amazing choice for those who cannot afford the cost of Europe but still want a rich and cuturally diverse experience.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It would be nice to share an apartment with a group of students and experience real independent life in Mexico. The family program was amazing and I was very spoiled by my "house-mom", however, I'd like to experience everyday living in Mexico this time.

Everything was top notch. I've never stayed in such a nice house. My house family treated me like one of their own.
