HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I am going to live on my own or with a roomate when I return to mexico. I want to have a little more privacy in my personal life.
Personal comments:
I really had a great advisor at the school, who helped with any issue I came accross. She connected me with a great family who I've come to be very acquainted with. As for my instructors at this school, they were great. They offered assistance to me quite often during my stay, and I'd like to praise this school for it's hospitality. STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
La salamandra was a great night night club located in the "Mundo e" Plaza. The "Beer Factory" also was a great after movies place to go and meet up with friends. I liked Teotihuacan and the pyramids. It was really interesting to know that it was at one time , really one of the most powerfull cities in mexico. On spring break or as they called it "Semana Santa", I went to Acapulco. That is the place to go. I've been to Cancun but it was more like Florida with a spanish twist. The life in my city where I was living was really laid back. I lived in "Las villas de la hacienda", the town right where the school is located. So my house was only one street away from the school which made it very convenient for me. Most of the students were required to drive more than an hour in some instances just to get to school. On the over-all, this was a gret experience to learn another culture. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
No, I really have no suggestions. Again there isn't much I'd change about this program I took a part in. All of the classes offered I used toward my degree. in other words they were alll transferrable
My opinion of the university assessment

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
I knew basic spanish phrases before I went to Mexico, and since I studied there my language skills have improved dramatically. The one problem I do have is that native people speak too fast so it's hard to comprehend. When the language is spoken more clearly I have less difficulties in undersatnding. OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had known how to speak spanish alot better. But, oh well, I did learn alot more. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
My personal recommendation would be to visit the scool first, and if one likes what they see then I would highly recomend finding a family to live with. I don't see why people would go to another country to live with people of there native country unless they just wanted to get away from home. FINAL COMMENTS
As I compile my thought about my stay in Mexico I've come to the conclusion that his was the best time I've ever had in school. They had great teachers with a desire to help. They gave me a great family to live with and learn from. I loved going to the "marketa" on the weekends and eating mexican food. My favorite dinner is "Pojo con mole". The only real recomendation I can give is, If you speak spanish or want to learn, go to mexico. It doesn't matter which school you go to, just how much you get out of it. Don't sit around and wait for people to come to you if you go to another country. Be outgoing and introduce yourself alot. People like that and in Mexico it is a very friendly environment.
