The university has its origins in Finland's first teacher training college, which was founded in Jyväskylä in 1863 and which was also the first Finnish-language institution of its kind. The Teacher Training College became College of Education in 1934 and received university status in 1966.

Why? The conditions of living on campus were very good and relatively cheap

think the housing was really great, every student had his/her own room, he kitchen wa usually shared with one or two other students.

The prices (especially of food) are really high in Finland!
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Food and beer in pubs is very expensive! So are the local buses - buy a bike!
