the quality of courses differ a lot, even within the same faculty. I strongly recommend to attend classes given by visiting professors at the school of business and economics. In general the courses are quite small and challenging. Jyväskylän Yliopisto is the countries' leading alma mater in the fields of sports and education. Here are some courses I recommend from different faculties. management of winter sports, theoretical and methodological aspects of the social sciences of sports, environmental management,INTOPIA (business simulation), Intercultural Communication and of course all FINNISH courses for foreigners.

The Finnish language courses should be either in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid overlapping with other courses. Courses that are announced in the course directory should actually take place!

If you are studying Sport Management then choose the Winterschool which is a really good seminar!!! Good teachers and interesting! If you can avoid Sport Marketing (just the lecturer from England!)cause it´s everything except Sport Marketing...Another thing : avoid "Philosophy of Competitive Sport" (too sleepy!) but you should take Practicum Ball Games because it´s a really good means to learn finnish sports!

Try to find a balance between easy assesments and hard ones...

Try to find courses with good lecturers (You should aks the local students). I had one course where the lecturer just sad down behind an overhead projector, talking really slowly and even chewing gum while giving the lecture... you should try to avoid such a course :O)

Just the thing about some lectures which i mentioned in Question 2

Very often courses are organized in a very short period of time (1 or 2 weeks..sometimes even 2 or 3 days!). Also quite often courses overlap each other...so you have to choose which one you're taking.

It would be good for students if the university could organize the timetables of the courses in a way that they wouldn't be overlaping all the time.

Especially visiting international teachers give very good opportunity to appreciate the originality of the lectures. Even if it is not complusory to survive in finland, try to learn finnish. People know how to speak english but will appreciate your motivation.
