Karel de Grote Hogeschool (KDG)
Karel de Grote Hogeschool, Van Schoonbekestraat 143, 2018 Antwerpen, Belgium
Description:
The Karel de Grote-Hogeschool was founded in 1995 as the result of a merger of 13 Catholic hogescholen in Antwerp all with a long tradition and a reputation of quality. The 12 campuses of the 'KdG'are spread over whole the city of Antwerp. Due to this merger the Karel de Grote-Hogeschool now is the largest Catholic 'Hogeschool' in Belgium, with around 7.300 students. Those students are really the first concern of this 'hogeschool': the institute has a policy of students' participation and it offers social service and students' guidance. The Karel de Grote-Hogeschool has six departments or faculties and in four of those only first-cycle undergraduate programmes are offered in three-year full-time courses leading to a basic or Bachelor's degree. First-cycle courses lead to more practical jobs. During training students acquire practical skills. Close contacts with professional reality are essential to the programme. In two departments, Arts and Engineering, a first-cycle of two years full-time programme is followed by a second cycle of two years. Higher admission terms and the duration of four years result in a higher academic degree or Master's degree. However, students are not trained for conducting scientific research, but rather for applying results to life generally. Therefore the two-cycle courses require close contact with professionals. Students can take a full-time or part-time programme.

Well, comparing with other languages, Dutch is a really difficult language specially for people of south Europe. Maintly because we are not very used to pronounce different sounds. But despite of this, the atmosphere in the city help us a lot to feel as part of all the community. All the people where ready to help us in different situations even out of the city. Citizens are always ready to give a hand. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

It was very easy to communicate in Antwerp, even with the people on the streets, because most of them speak English very well. The classes at the University were in English, so also no problems. Besides, there was a three-week Dutch Course at the beggining so we were able to learn the basics of the local language also. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
