Belgians (especially students) are excellent at languages. Limited opportunity to speak the Dutch I learned because the Belgian students wanted to try out thier English (and they were very good)

Final comments
If travel is a main objective, Belgium is a great place. It is very central to most major cities and countries. We were easily able to take 3 day weekend trips to parts of the UK, Germany, Holland, and France.
