HOUSING

Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: a house with rooms for foreigner students or worke
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: in the same place
Why? Is really nice to live with people from all over europe. The cost, facilities and location (only 7 minutes by bike from university)were quite good.
Personal comments:
It is perfectly organised. They ensure accomodation for all the foreigner students at low prices. The only disadvantage was the delay in repairs and the fact that the cleanning woman only came once a week or sometimes even less.

STUDENT LIFE
by Ricardo, Universidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
The night life in Hasselt or Diepenbiek is not very busy, if you want the party, you have to do it by yourself, meaning 30 ERASMUS students in one bar, for instance. I would advise not to miss the Carnival in Maastricht or the Genever Festival in Hasselt.

Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
The dutch language resulted from the begining really dificult for me because it is a germanic language and I understand better the latin languages. This is the reason why I spoke and communicate most of the time in english, although I learned basic things in a lot of languages...including greek!. Is very nice to know similarities and differences of your own language in comparison with other languages.
