If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Besides from there being no other choice, it was really important to get in close contact with the local students.

Personal comments
You live closely with 7 other students in a corridor, share kitchen and a living room. Your own room is fairly big and has shower/WC. Laundry facilities etc are close and for free. Rent is not cheap, but includes everything.

Academic
Course recommendations
I wrote only a thesis here, but the general impression is that in Sweden no one fears to include the fun aspect in courses. As for theses, many interesting ones are on offer at both labs and companies.

Personal recommendation
Take the Swedish courses offered. If only for the fun, international atmosphere and great people you get to know. If writing a thesis, do it at a lab. You are welcomed with open arms and integrated into lab life quickly. Watch your money and time deadlines.

Everybody speaks English in Sweden, and most speak very well. But if you like, you can still learn Swedish. Courses were offered, and they were high quality. Swedish is a beautiful language to learn.
