Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I am half swedish, so I mainly went to Sweden to improve my writting skills. I personally felt that my level after leaving the country was much higher. The language of instruction presents not too many difficulties for me. However, I learned new words, especially in the technical area.

Housing
Type of housing: Nation (student residence)
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Nation
Why?
It is the best way to learn from the swedish university life in Lund, and it provides a unique framework to get fully involved in all the student life it can offer.

Personal comments
It is really difficult to find any accomodation in Lund. There is not enough space for all the incoming students, so you must always try to fix it by your own instead of relying on the university.

Student life
Describe host city:
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal social experience
Personal comments
All the nations are a must for students in Lund. For cafes I would also recommend the nations cafes, and a lot of students go to Arimans for coffee. I greatly recommend Stortorget for cafes. One of my favourite spots is the botanical garden, cannot be missed in spring!

Personal recommendation
If you want to go to Lund I recommend you not to get crazy with the weather, Be prepared to see a new way of communicating and socializing and always be open minded. People are very nice as long as you are too, but you must have patience to gain their confidence. It is a great university and they offer you a lot of facilities.

Final comments
Try to get a place to live as soon as possible and bring with you a lot of warm clothes. However, always remember to bring something for the rain if you come in winter, that is what you will probably see the most. Get a JoJo Card for public transport, since you cannot move around with the bus without it. But even more essential is to get a bike very soon and secure it well. Bikes are your most valuable object in Lund, and they get stolen really easily. And... learn to love coffe!!
