FOOD: I often spent long hours at school and ate at restaurants. TELEPHONE: I mostly made long-distance calls. Cost/minute is pretty low (compared with Sweden) when pre-paid cards are used. You can buy these pretty much everywhere and the competition between the different providers is cut-throat (good for your wallet :) Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you wanna open a bank account in Canada during your stay, it may be a good idea to check out CIBC, they had good deals for students (especially if you stay as a client at least 90 days and keep a minimum of 1000 CAD in the account). However, always check the latest information with different banks, things may change with time... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I didn't have a cell phone, I tried to avoid expensive food and opted for lots of vegetables and fruits (which are less expensive than in my home country); however, housing was way more expensive than at home and made a big part of my budget. Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Try not spend money on useless little things (such as overpriced food in the cafeteria) but save it for your travelling. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

BECAUSE IT WAS NECESSARY TO KEEP IN TOUCH BY PHONE. HOUSING WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN MY HOST COUNTRY BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY A GOOD PLACE NEAR THE UNIVERSITY, AND IT WAS RENTED. NIGHTLIFE WAS LESS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE I DIDNT USE TO GO OUT AT NIGHT AND TRAVEL WAS LESS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE I HAD NOT MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO TRAVEL. Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.

Food is generally cheaper. Phone for local calls was included in rent, and I didnt use a mobile phone. Rent was somewhat more expensive, as the need for housing was more pressing then the willingness to spend time finding a cheap housing. Nightlife/Travel - more then at home, so costs were higher. Travel, Nightlife, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Overall: was the same price as at home. Food, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

Travel is more expensive because distances are much bigger than in Belgium. Healthy food is just a bit more expensive, while hamburgers etc are pretty much the same price Food, Travel: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.

You get roughly two canadian dollar for one quid. Canada is quite cheap, even Montreal! Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
You have to get a health insurance when going to Montreal and a double visa, one for Canada and one especially for Quebec. This will set you back a few hundred dollars. Hmm.. other than that, there werent that many financial surprises except for the trip to Miami. Be sure to do some travel whilst in Canada but remember that the US is much more expensive and you dont want to dig too deep of a hole in your wallet before university hasnt even started... When your on an exchange you want to discover the city, and the nice places by which it is surrounded. I visited for example New York, Quebec City and Toronto. At the end of March I'll probably also visit Ottowa and Toronto. And for the higher nightlife expenses. Montreal really has a lot to offer. Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Food, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home.
