Description:
Mercator is an autonomous institute of higher education of the Province of East Flanders. It came into being in 1995 as a merger of three institutes run by the Province of East Flanders. It was named after the famous Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594). The first principal of Mercator Hogeschool is Dr. Paul Van Hauwermeiren. The total number of students is about 3 500, of which 900 are currently studying in the Department of Translation Studies, 2 400 in the Department of Business Studies and the Department of Business Administration & Languages, and 200 in the Department of Nursing.

Personal comments:
I had no problems at all to get a room at the studenthome. The building was quite old but I had everything I needed.
