I stayed on after my study period (to work) and only then started to learn Norwegian. Speaking the language is a great advantage in submerging in the pleasant culture. Although nearly everyone is fluent in English, they tend to speak Norwegian to each other, even if foreign friends are present. Learning Norwegian is not easy at all...but English is widely spoken and used, so international students managed our lifes in English, 5 months of Norwegian lessons (one hour per week) was not enough to try the languange with Norwegians...but knowing German helps a lot in understanding them!!! Despite I never spoke Norwegian, it wasn't a problem for me. Almost all Norwegians speak english and everything on TV is in the original version. Also the movies in the cinema. Neither at school because all my courses where in english as they belonged to an International Master in Business. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

We got the opportunity to learn Norwegian at the NHH. I attented the course (at the beginning...) and began to make progress in speaking Norwegian. The "problem" was that EVERYBODY in Norway speaks English, so you do not get many opportunities to practice your Norwegian. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I would have really liked to learn to speak Norwegian, however at the university only a basic course was offered. Beforehand I had indicated that I wanted to learn Norwegian however when I arrived there the advanced Norwegian course that was offered was already full. Therefore I could only take the basic course and as Norwegians all speak perfect English it was difficult to learn the language. Wanted to learn the basics of the host language, but we didn't have the possibilities, there was no course in norwegian. You could speak English with everybody in the country. It helped to improve the knowledge. I never had communication problems. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

In Norway virtually everybody speaks English, even in the supermarkets. Therefore it was not really worth the trouble learning Norwegian, when you don't have that as a target. The level of Enlish of the teachers was not always very good. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Knowledge of the local language is not necessary at all. Local people speak English very well, communication with the other exchange students is a good practice, if you don't feel very confident about it. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

As Norwegian is not a common language in Europe, it was not so easy to learn it. But a good point was that almost every Norwegian is fluent in English. This way, it was very easy to communicate everywhere in Bergen , even in supermarkets, transports,etc... with local people. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
