Most of the classes are large lectures, and I would recommend taking seminars whenever possible. Avoid at all costs "Women in Contemporary Irish Society"!

The system is such that it demands a great deal of independent motivation (unlike colleges in the US) -- to get the most out of classes, one should read as much as possible.

Try to talk to someone who's done the same course on previous years. If not, you're gonna be a bit lost. Also, be pretty sure of the amount of credits you require. The system in Ireland is different too so be careful.

Take the seminar courses if you're accustomed to a small student-teacher ratio. The lectures are just that - lectures. Little to no interaction during class.

English lectures are very big and the only requirement is a 2500 word essay for visiting students, so I would suggest taking as many lectures as possible. English seminars were also pretty good. Classes are for the most part, very boring, but class is by no means mandatory.

The end-of-year essay was the way to go, you get a choice of about 7 different questions and therefore only need to study one particular section in order to pass. In-class exams were quite difficult in my own opinion. I can't say I learned too much at this university, but I had a great time anyway. Class is not a priority for most visiting students!
