HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? While the conditions of living in a dorm were satisfying and much superior to the one's in Romania, I didn't particularly enjoy sharing facilities like toilet and kitchen.
Personal comments:
Good conditions for a dorm, the price-quality aspect was balanced, the location was very well connected and you could easily reach important spots in town, including the university. Overall clean place, although the part that the tenants were supposed to attend to not so much and also the shared facilities posed a problem. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Since Norway has such a wunderful nature and offers many sport opportunities, I would recommend to do all kinds of sports (skiing in winter, cycling, jogging, sailin in summer).Travelling around the Norwegian coast and exploring the fjords and mountains can´t be missed. I trully recommend rafting on Norwegian rivers and summer hiking on the snow fields - very breath taking. Since the nights are so light during the summer, our favourite social activity was BBQ on the island Kalvoya. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Being part of a Double Degree Programme I didn't have such a big choice when it comes to courses, most of them were mandatory and I would have enjoyed to be given more liberty to choose. Also, some interesting courses were off limits to some of the master programmes.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I found the way of teaching and the assessment process a bit a bit inflexible and students (mostly foreigners) were required to fit into an established pattern and not given any chance at following their already formed aptitudes also. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
All courses were taught in English and this was no problem for me because I had already completed many courses in English at my home university. The Norwegian courses offered at the Handelshøyskolen BI are for beginners. Also the "advanced" course! After three semseters of (not very intensely) studying Norwegian in Switzerland I had to recognize that I learnt definitely more by playing ice hockey on Frognerstadion with Norwegians. This was also the best way to meet Norwegians. I met my best Norwegian friends there and we always communicate in Norwegian (E-Mails, when visiting each other). I have reached a level where I can easely and fluently communicate with Norwgians and read Norwegian literature. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Ioana, Academia de Studii Economice din Bucuresti, Bucharest, Romania
Economics, University Agreement
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
A private grant Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Norway is a much more expensive country than Romania in all aspects, but with a higher life standard also, so I assume that inhabitants don't necessarily feel they are spending too much. For a student living out of a grant it's nevertheless hard. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
A cheaper dorm can mean a significant saving of money without a too bigger difference in conditions compared to a more expensive on campus accommodation. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Not really,I informed my self quite well... In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I think the university itself is good, but the culture and the country itself brings a lot to the product and experience of the university. Beside the study program which had to be very near my expectations and ides (and it is!), everything is offered here, you just have to enjoy it, study, not worry how to aquire the basing studying resources... You can choose and organize your self beautifully, and in that the university makes an important role. FINAL COMMENTS
It is important to assess the university before you seriosly consider it, and that you can do through the communication process with the university. It has been shown to be a good indicator. If everything is a problem, the mails are not replied within a reasonble time, you have to put in a lot of energy to get basic information, they do not have nechanisms to for example find housing, organize health care, contact with embassis - they probably do not take good care of foreigh studets.
