For every exchange students in Denmark it's not so important to learn danish, one can communicate with everybody there in english since all the danes speak perfect english. For me it has been a very good opportunity to improve my english; among the exchange students there were a lot of native speakers too.

Everyone in Denmark knows the english language so I didn't have any particular problem of communication, both in the host country and university. At the beginning it was pretty difficult because I had little knowledge of english language, but after 2/3 months I was able to interact easly.

In the university I used English, and I did with other students as well. Some professors were natives, American or English, so I have had the opportunity to improve my fluency and some vocabulary. Learning Danish has been a good experience, although it is a pity that I have to leave when I am starting to be able to speak and understand (just a little!)

Having pretty good skills in english and german, I could quickly cope with written danish. Oral danish was something else. We didn't have enough course to reach sufficiently high level in danish (only 4h/week) but being deeply interested in scandinavia, I took the best of it.

My experience was that when you travel to a country that has a main language that you can´t comunicate in, it´s going to be more difficult to make friends of that country, not exchange students as you. But I understand, that´s why I tried to learn danish as far as I could.

I really improved my english thanks almost to the other exchange students. And I am now happy to speak a little bit of danish (one of my danish friend gave me some courses and it was really friendly)
