Personal spending habits
The Austrian rail network offers a Vorteils card which costs around 20 Euros and gives 50% off rail. Salzburg is also in a great location because it is serviced by all major trains on the Munich-Vienna lines.

Because Salzburg is a major tourist destination, many locals speak English and even when one tries to speak German, people will respond back in English. At least, this was the case for me because English is my mother tongue and they knew it.

I wish I had known...
One can read and talk to everyone they want to find out as much as they possibly can before going abroad, but nothing prepares you for your personal experience more than just going and doing it.

If you're out to learn or improve you German language skills, Salzburg isn't for you. If you're out to have a exciting, cultural study abroad experience involving lots of travels, then it could be the right place.

Academic
Course recommendations
The German language courses are very crowded and it's hard to learn with so many people. Computer labs are not as abundant as they should be so many times people have to wait in line to use a slow computer.

Personal comments
Salzburg is not exactly the place to enjoy nitelife as most the local students go home on the weekends leaving the city desserted. There are a couple of bars in the city center, but not nearly enough as there could be. The NaWi fests put on by the University are not to miss as they are the best party Salzburg could ever offer.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
As an international student it's best to live with a lot of other students for social reasons. The housing I had was one of the farthest from the city center, but the city is not that large to begin with.
