From the moment when you arrive to the place up to when you start to understand somehting, the gestures' language get very, very important. It helps you a lot, besides English of course. I used English with my Erasmus mates in the beginning, till we could start to understand each other in italian. On ther other hand, at University and at my internship there I had to learn italian as fast as possible, in order to communicate with people. For my workmates it was difficult to work in english, as they were used to doing so in italian. For day to day life, it was mandatory to learn italian as soon as possible. At first it was funny to learn so fast and so many thins of the language, you must think how to be understood. And the, you realise thak you can speak fluently, that you understand everything when you read a newspaper... It's a grate experience. I studied italian 6 month before going to Italy, and for a person from a latin country (Portugal, Spain...) I think it's enough. For the other I'd recomend 1 year at least. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
