If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because the first time you live in a country it is strictly necesary, according to my point of view, to live with a family or native friends to experience great cultural immersion. But when you have lived there yet, it´s better to live by yourself, so you don´t bother your friends.
Personal comments:
I experienced a wonderful time in Rio with the family I lived. The first day I was in the city they already have done all the arregments with the family and I already haved a clean and nice room.

Why? I did like very much to live in an apartment because i was in Brasil, where the campus residence has not very good conditions and it is located in a bad part of the city. Although if i had been in another country e.g in Europe, i would be appreciate to live in the campus because you have much more "student life", where everybody lives near and it is much better.

Why? It was a great experience and added substantially to my emmersion in the Brazilian culture.
Personal comments:
I chose to live with a family who I had previously met and enjoyed. The university offered housing with families in the area, of which I heard mixed reviews.

Why? It is the better way if you decide to share with other students. You are more independent because you have your things and you can invite people over.
