Why? Dorm room were really small and expensive. Off campus housing, on the other hand, was relatively cheap and the offered apartments were all pretty large.
Personal comments:
As I mentioned already, the dorm rooms were too small and too expensive, but they had cable internet for free.

Why? I feel that an appartment is better than on campus accomondation no matter how bad the appartment is.

My appartment was very closr to campus. It was not the most modern appartment, however, it was in decent condition.

Why? Much better to stay on campus.You're closer to the classes and you can really leave the exchange program experience with local students.

Nice place with nice people although most residents were younger than me. Enabled me to learn a lot about the American way of thinking and life.

The facilities and rooms were old and a bit worn, but you got used to it. Food thiefs and neighbors making noice are not good.

met two other exchange students who already had a house, and I moved in with them which worked out really well

Why? Because is much easier to contact other students of campus. You are very near from everywhere and you don't have to take take care of the cleaning of the spaces
