The accommodation with a family was nice. The area was quiet and peaceful. I could sleep every night if I wanted to. Living with a family would have been more fun if there had been people closer to my age.

Chico Mendez is quite popular within students because there where special student nights.
German student tradition - Feuerzangenbohle (I hope the spelling is right) - is defenately worth experiencing. The carneval is also worth seeing. In Finland we don't have that kind of tradition.

The location is good. If sometimes get bored with germans, you can easily go to Netherlands or Belgium. Joke!

I don't have any specific cost-saving tips. There were student discounts and weekend tickets for regional trains for budget travelling when I was there.
