I can't think of any "bad" surprises - I have a friend who was in an exchange programm the year before me and she gave me a lot of insights - so, not there isn't anything. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

Personal recommendation:
Although the university building is rather old and they have some room problems, it has a very nice location (being in the middle of Paris)! Further the social activities at Sciences Po are amazing - sport, interest groups, parties ,... (you name it you can do it!). Last but not least I also have to say that a workable knowledge of French is really important -> learning it from stretch would be REALLY hard! Most professors kindly take into consideration that it isn't the first language, but there are some who don't!!! FINAL COMMENTS
Paris is a wonderful city - whatever interests one has it offers you something! I love traveling and I thouroughly enjoyed myself, since you can go pretty much everywhere for an affordable amount of money (especially when you are a student under 25!) Being student offers a lot of other advantages (e.g. the "Imagine R"-ticket for a year of transportation around the Isle de Paris or a cheap one-year-ticket for the Louvre). Finally I want to recommand to all movie fans (like my self) a subscription with one of the major movie theater - chains (it allows you to go in any performance, in any movie theater of the chain for one year) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Make sure you know exactly how your results are going to be counted back at your home university - because I was the first student from my university to do this particular exchange and beacuse the French and American evaluation systems are so different, I ran into lots of administrative problems once I returned home. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Be prepared to work very, very hard. If you have the option of going for the full academic year or just one semester, definitely choose the full year - I wish I had!! FINAL COMMENTS

Our home university had advised on everything we really needed to know. After that it was nice discovering things on my own. It is good to know that it is impossible to get taxis on the stree in Paris. You need to get them from specific places. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Really challenging and academically satisfying. Nobody who signs up for sciences po should expect an easy year abroad, it is hard and it needs a lot of work especially in my case where the year abroad counted towards my degree. FINAL COMMENTS
I would advise international students to do the STAGE D'INTERGRATION in September. Even if your French is good it is really important to do it so that you learn your way around university before the classes start. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

IEP Paris is a lot of work. More than one could imagine. At the end of it, for me, it was worth it, and I came to enjoy my stay there. However, the first 5 months of my stay, I hated the place -and so did many others. But if you don't let yourself to be scared by the first impression, it will definitely be a worthwhile experience! FINAL COMMENTS
I enjoyed my year in Paris, but it wasn't the typical party-hard ERASMUS year abroad. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Go but be prepared to suffer. It makes the fun bit more enjoyable. Or if you dont have to suffer, spend all of mummy and daddys hard earned cash and justify it by saying that you only live in Paris once as a student. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

Bit small and far too elistist fro its own good. Believes its own propaganda. But you will have superb teachers and academic facilities. Am approaching things differently than the anglosaxon model and have actually been forced to learn stuff and not cram fot end of year exams. FINAL COMMENTS
Get a laptop, and ask loads of stupid but intelligent sounding question in class. In a room full of foreigners who have difficulty understanding what you are saying, you will be seen as intelligent and witty. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

It's a place to study mopre than anything else - so recommendable as such, but look for your social life outside. There are a lot of international students from all over Europe and the world though, which can be exciting - we took the opportunity to set up a Europe-wide student organisation and organise a one-week conference! This university is amazing. It is considered the 'Harvard' of France, and the professors are all experts in their fields. This university is great if you want an academic challenge. FINAL COMMENTS
Don't go to Sciences-Po if you want to 'party' and travel a lot. I would suggest the Sorbonne for that. However, Sciences-Po will give you one of the most beneficial academic experiences available among Political Science universities in the world. That Sciences Po is not as good as it reputation maintains that it is. In my opinion:

During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Paris is amazing, and French is a beautiful, challenging language. Sciences Po is none of these things, and this opinion is quite literally unanimous among international students. I cannot speak for other universities in Paris or in France, but Sciences Po is to be avoided. FINAL COMMENTS
As I mentioned above, I absolutely adored living in Paris and there are limitless things to do there. However, academically the city isn't very conducive to heavy study (lines to get into libraries, no library is open past 10 p.m., etc.). Sciences Po, naturally, compounds this. I have spoken to about 40-50 students in the international program at Sciences Po, and the BEST response I have ever received is that they thought Sciences Po was a "mixed bag." The feelings tend to be more along the lines of, "I can't wait to go home" and "It's horrible," etc. Everyone eventually drops into indifference because they can't stand to put effort into something so pointless...the university is truly counterproductive to the academic experience.
