Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The best option when living in Russia. On-campus accommodation is very cheap, but rooms are too small and there is no privacy. Other ways of accommodation are impossible in Russia.

The university helps in finding a flat, although there is always a cheaper solution when you do it on your own. Flats in Russia are very bad, very old, there are no gadgets, bathrooms are unusable! Although, when ready to pay high price, modern flats can be easily obtained.

Everone was very nice and polite at the university because people think and act like europeans. In the street or when communicating with administration and authorities, firstly, they would not talk to you if you did not speak russian, second, foreigners are treated as if they were not humans, theirdly, be aware of russian bueracracy!!!

It is a good university. Westernly oriented, but you can learn a great deal about Russia and its culture.

The mentioned categories are cheaper than in the UK. Travelling around the city is very cheap, trains are also cheaper if you want to go to Moscow, but the rest, such as flights, are the same! HOusing is cheaper, but also depends on the quality you are looking for. NIghtlife is not cheap, but deffinitely cheaper than in the UK. Food is very bad quality, but not cheap.

Personal comments
Organize your costs. Take two weeks as a test period. The main expences are on food and nightlife. Forget about shopping; it is a rip off for brands, and the rest is russain domestic production!
