Why? I stayed with my family, of course, and i would do the same again.
Personal comments:
Try to find an apartment near the suburb of Agia Paraskeui where the college is. If you can't just stay at the centre of athens, where pollution might be a lot, but there is no criminality.

the university has apartments for rent for 4 persons, it is very close to the university, but i did not want to stay with people...
