Morocco is a bi-lingual country (French, Arabic)where languages are taught everywhere (specialised centers, university). In Holland, it is pretty the same. It is a small country that makes big impressions thanks to the openess of its people towards people, cultures and languages (most of the Dutch speak English, French, Italian, German...!!). When I came first to Holland, my English was not bad though very formal. After meeting other people from different countries such as Great Britain, USA, Sweden as well as watching movies in English etc my spoken and written English improved very much. Now, I am happy to declare myself almost trilingual!

I find that Dutch system very practical and flexible. Moreover, the facilities are amazing and almost all people here speak English. Improvement are to be made in the way the classes are taught since the lecturer is rather an initiator. Most 'internationals' are surprised when class lasts about 30 mn and the lecturer is only supervising teh assignment and giving 'tips'.

Student should bear in mind that the Dutch system is very flexible and thus different from most world academic systems. The lecturers are mostly there to orientate students through their assignments. Students are requested to find additional litterature and study during their free-time.

Final comments
Holland is the gateway to Europe: Paris is 6 hours far by car, London 5 hours, Pargue 7 hours. If you like to travel this is the place to be! My advice is tp prepare yourself to meet other people from other countries and cultures. Be ready to learn languages and have life-time friendships.

Why?
Well, when you opt for a flat/appartment, you have your own space including facilities that you do not have to share as bathroom, shower. Moreover, it was important to me to have some privacy.

The host university helps in finding an arrangement (flat/kind of camous)etc However, it is an above-market price arrangement. Sometimes, You can be very unplesantly surprised.
