telephone: it is obvious when u have to pay for it and not ur parents :P housing: needs not explanation nightlife: you use to go out more than at home travel: during a year abroad you wish to do some tourism and transport is quite expensive

The cost of living is much higher in England. Plus I went for the experience and really spent more time travelling or socialising than usual

Go to the one-pound stores, buy in bulk, buy store brands. Shop in the market. Cheaper supermarkets are outside of the centre.

The UK has high taxes like most of Europe, so everything costs about 20% more.

Buy the month bus pass; Don´t live in the campus housing; Buy food at TESCO; Drink at places which have "offers".
