There are literally hundreds of different places where one can socialize while in Madrid. Favorite haunts include Las Huertas and around Plaza del Sol and Gran Vía. Not to be missed are the three main museums and a walk down Paseo del Prado.

As a result of the Euro compared to the Canadian dollar I spent more in Spain than I do in Canada. However, I found food and nightlife to be cheaper thus the costs balanced out.

Every individual's travel experience is unique. It is important to keep an open mind, always be willing to try new things and travel to new places. Take advantage of every moment and don´t waste time feeling homesick because soon enough you will be on the plane back home wishing that you were still abroad.

At the Autonoma de Madrid, students are very active politically and socially. Unfortunately I was in Madrid during the Iraq war and the students of the Autonoma were strongly opposed. Ths resulted in about a month and a half of strikes in which the University was closed.
