Personal spending habits
I spent more due to a near equalization of exchange rate (Euro/Pound). One example was housing. At the beginning, my rent in Madrid was the same as in London, but after the near equalization of exchange rate my rent in Madrid became more expensive than at home. I spent less on telephone and food because of lower prices than in London. I spent more on nightlife and travel. This is because I went out at night a lot more in Madrid and I had to traveled to university.

Be aware of exchange rates if you are coming from the UK or other non-euro country. Make sure you have make your bank aware that you are going to study abroad. This way you will avoid any credit or debit card stoppages. Track your expenses.

It was really hard to understand everything people said to me at the beginning because of different dialect. But I got used to it in a few months and was able to communicate well. If you want to learn the language, make friends with the locals. Even if you do not understand them at the beginning, you will be able to communicate well at the end. Use a dictionary to define words that you do not know, especially those words that you hear often. Do not rely on the definitions of the locals. Make sure you brush up grammar rules in order to start recognizing good and bad grammar structures. University provides reference books in many of its libraries. If you use dictionary, read grammar books and interact the locals, you should increase your chances to learn the language of the locals.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would choose to live in an apartment/house because Universidad de Autonoma is slightly outside of Madrid. I prefer to rent privately because I would be able to choose a nice part of Madrid.

Personal comments
I can only say that places for housing at the university were limited and I had to find a place outside of university.
