Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It was great to live so close with people and to have a common kitchen en livingroom to spend a lot of time together.

The disco's you find next to Puerto del sol are amazing but they are of course very touristic AND expensive. It is ok for those who have money and to go out in those places once a week. (Capital, el Sol, Pacha, Palacio, ...). Then you have a lot of bars near Puerto del sol. And for the 'chocolate' you have to go to chueco and surroundings. Young students you can find in Moncloa but it is not the atmosphere i preferred.

Do not try to stick with foreign people. Don't try to get to know too many people neither but a few very good spanish friends and try to keep in touch with them after your stay. Which i find a pitty myself. It is not so bad when you don't know a lot of spanish before you go. I did not know a lot neither you learn it very quick. So this is not a reason NOT to go. Have a lot of fun when you are there this is THE experience of your life do not forget that!!!!!!!

Academic
Course recommendations
There is no such a thing like a typed sylabus... so you have to make notes by hand that means copying!! You don't see a lot in a course and you never go in depth. It stays with an overall course.

Get in touch with a lot of local people. The best way to do it is start talking to people in bars and go out once. It is not so easy to make friends at university but you can try of course. If you really want to learn the language do not stay only with other exchange students and share an appartement with spanish people!!

You can have a special rate for international calls but you have to apply for it with Telephonica !!! By an abbono for the metro, bus and train it will save you a lot of money! Open a bank account is is easy and doesn't cost any money!
