Universidad Carlos III de Madrid review by Verena

Review by Verena, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria
Business Studies, Erasmus
HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? more independence than with family. Campus is far away from city center and I prefer to stay near the center.
Personal comments:
some students do live on the campus but as the university is in Getafe, you might miss a lot of Madrids nightlife. And living on the campus is quite expensive. So it might be better to look for rooms in Madrid although it takes you more time to university.

KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Night spot: Sal a sol (small disco, great music), and the whole quarter of chueca can be great fun.

Overall
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Personal comments:
my spanish improved a lot as I was living with 3 spanish guys. I would hardly recommend to look for appartments to be shared with spanish people, as on university you deal mostly with other erasmus students.

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
The climate in Madrid was quite surprising. Summer didn't start before June and until that time it was freezingly cold. But when summer finally started I would have prefered the cold weather... you can't stand that heat!! Should have taken with me more cloth for winter-weather, however.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
University is ok, teachers are quite nice, only disatvantage is that it is in Getafe, but connection by bus is no problem.
