It get´s pretty cold in Madrid in the winter, and it also rains a lot. It´s also not as cheap here as I thought.

Exchange rate from the dollar is bad right now- that had a lot to do with it. Cell phones are also more expensive here than in the States.

I was at the campus in Getafe and I would definently recommend living in the city of Madrid- you may have to commute a little to get to school but it is worth it not to live outside the city.
