Description:
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid as such was 25 years old in 1996 although most of its centres are over a hundred years old, having been founded in the 18th and 19th centuries and existing independently until they were grouped together in the UPM.

It is no exaggeration to say that much of the history of Spanish technology for over one and half centuries was written by the Schools of Architecture and Engineering of this university, in that for many years some of them were the only schools in existence.

Why? There is a better opportunity to meet more people and to be in contact with your classmates and to make more friends
Personal comments:
As in whole Spain, the housing was arranged in form of shared apartments that depends a lot on the people you stay with, the best of course is to stay with other Erasmus students. The university arranges apartments upon a request and they are ok.

Why? Because you live with different people together in one house. It's social but still smaller than a residency (expensive, rules)

The housing done by the university was really bad. I ended up in a house 40 minuts from the campus. I didn't sign any contract, hired two weeks and started looking on my own.

Why? It has the best cost*/advantages ratio and gives a lot of freedom
Personal comments:
They don't care at all about finding you an accomodation. They don't even asnwer your question about courses or staying through e-mail. Anyway, the situation is not so bad once you are there (they have a good organisation, after all).

Why? shared flat with 2 spanish people, good to meet local people and to learn the language, contact with other erasmus is given even if you don't live with them, in madrid hard to get cheap flat (if enough room to live :).
